How much does TV mounting usually cost?
The honest answer is that it depends on wall type, mount type, TV size, and whether you want cables hidden inside the wall or routed along the surface. A basic flat-mount on drywall is a different scope than a full-motion articulating mount on a brick fireplace wall with in-wall cable management. What is a VESA pattern and why does it matter?
VESA is the bolt-hole spacing on the back of your TV, measured in millimeters. It determines which brackets are compatible with your specific set. A 400x400 VESA pattern won't fit a bracket rated for 200x200 without an adapter. Before we order or bring a mount, we confirm your TV's VESA spec and weight to make sure the bracket is the right fit.
Can a TV be mounted on drywall without hitting a stud?
Technically, yes, using toggle anchors rated for the load. But we don't recommend it for TVs over 40 pounds or any full-motion mount. A full-motion arm creates lateral torque that toggle anchors handle poorly over time. For heavier sets and articulating mounts, we go into studs. If your stud layout doesn't cooperate with where you want the TV, we'll talk through the options before drilling.
What's the difference between a fixed, tilting, and full-motion TV mount?
A fixed mount holds the TV flat against the wall, no movement at all. A tilting mount lets you angle the screen down, which helps if it's mounted high on the wall. A full-motion (articulating) mount extends away from the wall and swings left or right. Full-motion mounts are heavier, need more robust anchor points, and cost more -- but they're the right call in rooms where you watch from multiple positions.
How are cables hidden after a TV is mounted?
Two main options. An in-wall cable kit routes wires through a hole behind the TV and brings them out near a low-voltage outlet or floor level -- cleanest look, but requires knowing where insulation and electrical lines are before cutting. A surface raceway is a painted channel that runs along the wall. Faster and easier to reverse, still far cleaner than a dangling cord. We'll tell you which one makes sense for your wall before we start.
How high should a TV be mounted on the wall?
The center of the screen should sit at or near eye level when you're seated, typically 42 to 48 inches from the floor for most couches and standard seating. Mounting higher than that forces you to tilt your head up for hours, which gets uncomfortable fast. A fireplace wall is the common exception -- screens mounted above a mantle are almost always too high, but a tilting mount helps compensate. We'll confirm placement with you before drilling.
